Canadian law regulates the export of artworks made from whale bone, walrus or narwhal ivory, caribou antler, and other wildlife materials. Under the Wild Animal and Plant Protection and Regulation of International and Interprovincial Trade Act, which implements the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), a federal export permit from Environment and Climate Change Canada may be required before these works can leave Canada, including carved or antique pieces.
