Consignment Services

Consignment Services

Place your work in front of the right audience.

Bloch Bauers helps artists, collectors, and estates present important works with care, context, and a clear sales plan.

Two paths. One careful process.

For Artists

Consigning your work means more than a place on a wall. You receive your own artist page on our site, a presence in the gallery and online shop, and active promotion through our openings, events, and newsletter. Commission terms are set work by work and agreed in writing before placement.

For Collectors & Estates

Whether purchased, inherited, or part of an estate, we review the work, discuss its background, and recommend the best path, whether gallery sale or auction. If you would first like to know what something is worth, our appraisal services can help.

Not sure which path fits you? Artists usually come to us because they want thoughtful representation, visibility, and a proper setting for their work. Collectors and estates usually come to us because they need guidance on value, selling options, or what to do with a piece or collection. Hover over either path above to learn more.

For Artists

For artists, consignment is about more than placing work on a wall. We look at the artwork, presentation, story, and fit with the gallery, then discuss a clear plan for display, online placement, promotion, and sale. If accepted, your work can be supported through your artist page, the gallery, our online shop, openings, events, and our collector newsletter. Terms are agreed in writing before anything is placed.

For Collectors & Estates

For collectors and estates, the first step is understanding what you have and what path makes sense. A single inherited painting, a private collection, or an estate may be best suited for gallery sale, auction, appraisal first, or a combination of options. We review the work, discuss its background and condition, and help you make a careful decision before anything is sold.

How it works

1

Consultation

Bring your work or collection to the gallery for an initial review. We look over each piece, discuss its background, and consider how best to present it.

2

Agreement

We establish fair terms together, including commission, display timeline, and promotion. Every situation is unique, so we keep each agreement transparent and answer any questions before you move forward.

3

Exhibition and Sale

We display your work and promote it through our community networks, events, and online channels. Once a piece sells and payment has cleared, you receive a detailed statement along with your payment.

Common questions

What kind of work do you accept?

We specialize in art connected to Northern Ontario and Indigenous artists, with a focus on the skill, history, and story behind each piece. That said, we are always glad to consider other work that fits the gallery. If you are unsure whether your piece is a fit, reach out and we will let you know.

Do I need an appraisal before consigning?

Not always. In many cases, we can begin with a simple review of the piece and discuss whether consignment, auction, or a formal appraisal makes the most sense. If you need a written value for insurance, estate, donation, or legal purposes, our appraisal services may be the better first step.

Who decides the selling price?

We recommend a selling price based on the artist, condition, market interest, history, and presentation of the work. The final consignment terms, including price and commission, are discussed with you and agreed in writing before the piece is placed for sale.

How is commission decided?

Commission terms are set work by work and agreed in writing before placement, so they reflect the value, presentation, and sales plan for each piece. Nothing is finalized until you have reviewed and accepted the terms.

How long will the gallery keep the work?

The display and sales timeline depends on the piece, the season, and the agreed plan. We discuss the timeline before accepting the work, so you know what to expect before moving forward.

What happens if the piece does not sell?

If a piece does not sell within the agreed period, we review the next step with you. That may mean extending the consignment, adjusting the presentation or price, moving the work to auction, or arranging for the piece to be returned.

When do I get paid after a piece sells?

Once a piece sells and payment has cleared, you receive a detailed statement along with your payment. We keep the accounting transparent so you can see exactly how the figure was reached.

Should I sell through the gallery or at auction?

It depends on the piece. Our team reviews the work, discusses its background, and recommends the best path. If you would first like to know what something is worth, our appraisal services can help you understand its value before you decide anything.
