Marianne Vander Dussen

Marianne Vander Dussen is a Canadian realist painter based in North Bay, Ontario, whose luminous works celebrate the beauty and quiet poetry of the natural world. Working in both acrylic and oil, she is particularly recognized for her florals, landscapes, and birds, rendered with a refined sensitivity to colour, atmosphere, and light. Central to her practice is the pursuit of luminosity—the impression that light emerges from within the painting itself.

Drawn to the distinctive landscape of Northern Ontario, Vander Dussen relocated to the region in 2013 and has since developed a practice that brings together classical painting traditions and a contemporary sensibility. Her work invites the viewer to slow down and rediscover the extraordinary within familiar moments of nature.

Her paintings are held in private and corporate collections across Canada. Beyond the studio, Vander Dussen has also become a respected voice in contemporary realism instruction, sharing her knowledge and painting process with an online audience of more than 100,000 since 2021.

Vander Dussen holds a Master of Education from Nipissing University’s Schulich School of Education and is a licensed teacher with the Ontario College of Teachers. She continues to live and create in North Bay, where the landscape and natural beauty of Northern Ontario remain an enduring influence on her work.
