How to Sell with Bloch Bauers The right path for art, collections, and estates

Not every piece should be sold the same way. We review the work, your timeline, and your goals, then recommend the best route, whether that means gallery consignment, timed online auction, appraisal first, or a combination.

Choose the right selling path

Not every piece belongs in the same sale format. Some works benefit from gallery presentation and steady exposure, while others are better suited to a timed auction with a clear closing date. We review the work first, then recommend the route that makes the most sense.

Gallery consignment

Best for individual artworks, artist representation, and pieces that benefit from careful presentation in the gallery and online shop. The work is offered at an agreed price, with commission and terms confirmed in writing before placement.

Learn about consignment

Timed online auction

Best for collections, estates, and pieces with active collector interest. Your work is offered as an auction lot with a suggested estimate and, when appropriate, a reserve. Bidders compete until the lot closes, creating a defined sale window.

How selling works

Every selling path begins with a review. Before anything is placed, listed, or priced, we take time to understand the work and recommend the right next step.

1

Get in touch

Bring your piece or collection to the gallery, or contact us by email or phone with details and photos. There is no charge to start the conversation.

2

We review and recommend

We look at the work, discuss its background and condition, and recommend the best route. That may be gallery consignment, timed online auction, an appraisal first, or another practical next step.

3

We agree on terms

Commission, timeline, pricing, reserve, or appraisal details are confirmed in writing before anything moves forward. Nothing is finalized until you have reviewed and accepted the terms.

4

We handle the process

Once the agreed path is in place, we handle the presentation, listing, sale process, and communication. When a sale is completed and payment has cleared, you receive a detailed statement along with your payment.

What we can help sell

We focus on fine art, coins, currency, and selected estate material, with particular interest in work connected to Northern Ontario and Indigenous artists. If something is not the right fit for us, we will tell you clearly and suggest a practical next step.

Fine Art

Paintings, prints, drawings, framed works, and other original pieces, especially works connected to Northern Ontario, Canadian art, and Indigenous artists.

Coins & Currency

Single coins, paper money, collections, and related numismatic material. We can review individual pieces or larger collections and recommend the right selling path.

Collectibles & Estates

Selected collectibles, inherited items, and estate collections that fit our gallery, auction, or appraisal services. Not every item belongs with us, but we will help you understand the next step.

Need a value before you sell?

Selling advice and formal appraisal are not the same service. If you need a written valuation for insurance, estate, donation, legal, or accounting purposes, please start with our appraisal services.

If your main question is whether something may be suitable for sale, consignment, or auction, we can begin with an informal selling review. That first conversation helps us understand the item or collection and recommend the practical next step.

Selling questions

Should I consign, sell at auction, or start with an appraisal?

It depends on the item, its condition, its market, and your reason for selling. Some pieces do best with curated gallery presentation and steady exposure. Others are better suited to a timed auction with a clear closing date. If you need a formal written value first, appraisal may be the right starting point.

How do fees and commission work?

Fees, commission, pricing, reserves, and timelines are confirmed in writing before anything is placed, listed, or sold. We review the terms with you first, so you understand the plan before you commit.

Do I need an appraisal before selling?

Not usually. If your goal is simply to understand whether something may be suitable for sale, consignment, or auction, an informal selling review is often enough. A formal written appraisal is a separate service for insurance, estate, donation, legal, or accounting purposes.

When do I get paid?

Payment is made after the item sells and the buyer’s payment has cleared. You receive a detailed statement with your payment, showing the sale amount, applicable fees or commission, and the final amount payable to you.

What if it does not sell?

We review the next step with you. Depending on the item, that may mean adjusting the price, changing the presentation, moving it to auction, holding it for a future opportunity, or arranging for it to be returned.

Ready to start?

Bring your piece or collection to the gallery, or start by email with photos and any background you have. We will review it honestly and recommend the most practical next step, whether that is consignment, auction, appraisal, or another route.
