Allan HirshAllan Hirsh is a sculptor and master woodworker whose evocative assemblages transform forgotten objects into poetic works of art. Drawing from decades spent collecting weathered artifacts, antique materials, aged wood, and industrial fragments, Allan creates sculptures that celebrate memory, craftsmanship, humour, and human connection. Each piece begins with discovery, a discarded object, a worn tool, a fragment of metal marked by time, and is thoughtfully reimagined into a new visual narrative. Through balance, texture, patina, and composition, Allan gives renewed purpose and meaning to materials once overlooked, allowing them to speak again through sculpture. His work carries both sophistication and playfulness, inviting viewers to slow down, look closer, and reconnect with the beauty hidden within everyday objects. Rich with character and history, his assemblages often evoke nostalgia while remaining deeply contemporary in their artistic language.Over the past 26 years, Allan’s work has been exhibited at prominent galleries throughout Ontario, including the Kennedy Gallery, White Water Gallery, Temiskaming Art Gallery in Haileybury, Ferneyhough Contemporary Gallery, Novah Gallery, and the Coles Art Market in Huntsville.“I am interested in the relationships that different objects have with each other. I enjoy exploring visual balance. Texture, colour and type of material are all considered. I love antiques and wood and metal with patina. Individual artefacts that once were used daily have been discarded and ignored. I find these objects and try to see their shape and use in a new light. I create a new story for them in the creation of my assemblages. New relationships and meanings are formed and the resulting found object sculpture offers an organization that is hopefully both unique and visually interesting.”Beyond sculpture, Allan is also an accomplished published cartoonist and author whose work has appeared in numerous publications and books, including the bestselling Chicken Soup for the Canadian Soul and Chicken Soup for the Breast Survivor’s Soul. His lifelong exploration of human relationships, humour, and emotional resilience deeply informs his artistic practice.Following a distinguished 50-year career as a psychotherapist, Allan now devotes his full attention to artistic creation, bringing with him a profound understanding of human experience, storytelling, and the emotional significance of objects. His sculptures are more than assemblages; they are reflections on memory, survival, transformation, and the quiet beauty of things that endure.Today, Allan Hirsh’s work resonates strongly with collectors seeking pieces that are not only visually compelling but deeply personal and impossible to replicate. Sculptures that carry both history and soul.
